Tremor in San Juan del Sur

Did you know that the Earthquake that leveled and destroyed Nicaragua’s Capital City, Managua on Dec 23, 1972 at 12:29 am was only 6.2 on the Richter scale?

Why did it cause so much damage? Because of the kinds of structures that were common back then made of ”Taquezal” which had already been damaged and were insufficiently repaired due to an earth quake in 1931.

Since then, building techniques implemented by most everyone in the city requires cement and rebar support beams. This is one of the main reasons we all recommmed to build cement and rebar structurally framed houses.

Last night in San Juan del Sur, Nov 8th and this morning Nov 9th, 2021, we experienced two tremors:

First was 5.3 on the Richter Scale at 8:53pm
Second was 6.3 on the Richter Scale at 12:23pm

In San Juan del Sur, no damage at all has yet to be reported. Many of the new families were shaken up last night but thankfully, all is good!
